Recycled Runway McLaren Vale: An Exciting First
As many of you know, I have long been a passionate supporter of the environment. This is why I am excited to announce that I am taking part in the inaugural McLaren Vale Recycled Runway event. This event is a significant step towards promoting sustainable fashion and raising awareness about textile waste. Since its inception in Mt Gambier 2013, Recycled Runway has become a powerful platform to highlight the issue of textile waste, which is one of the largest contributors to landfill.
Over the years, the event has gained immense popularity, becoming a highlight on the social calendar. This year, McLaren Vale is proud to join this inspiring movement and I was pretty keen to be a part of this as the thought of creating a wearable outfit from recycled clothing was a very exciting concept.
Recycled Runway is a unique fashion event where creativity meets sustainability. Contestants purchase a bag containing approximately five garments of pre-loved clothing. Our challenge is to design and create a wearable outfit within six to eight weeks, using as much of the garments as possible. With the help of my good friend, Gillian, we were creative and relearned sewing skills. The concept also matched our business and personal values.
Our team is proud of the support the community have given to the Recycled Runway, McLaren Vale and it is a great way of bringing the community together. I can’t wait to see what all the other contestants have designed at the event on Saturday 25th at the Wirra Wirra Wines barrel hall.
